The Kittredge School Council was established in
1993 as defined by Massachusetts state law. Its purpose is to assist the principal with
goal setting, budget and special programming. The council consists of the principal, three
parents, two teachers and a community member who may not have children in the school. The
parent and teacher members are elected by their respective constituencies. A major
responsibility of the council is to develop a School Improvement Plan for each academic
year. Typically, a needs assessment is given to parents and staff in order to develop
broad areas for improvement. Drafts of building initiatives are prepared, staff members
provide suggestions for specific activities and the final document is prepared by the
council for submission to the North Andover School Committee and the Kittredge community.
The major goals of the School Improvement Plan are expressed as "building
initiatives." Building initiatives for the 1998-1999 school year are under
construction. Previous initiatives are listed here while you wait:
- Document strategies that increase quality learning among students and professional
staff. Here are more details.

willingness to take risks, open and honest communication, and a commitment to the school
as a whole. Here are more details.
