From the PrincipalDear Kittredge families,
On behalf of the teachers and staff at Kittredge I'd like to thank you all for the amazing luncheon on last Wednesday, Curriculum Day. Everything about it was wonderful - the setting, the food, the service, the gifts, the centerpieces and all the decorating. The quotations were especially meaningful to all of us. Also, thank you so much for being partners with us in your children's education. You help make our jobs so much easier. We truly appreciate all you do for the Kittredge community.
Sincerely,
Nancy Jukins
on behalf of the Kittredge teachers and staff
Our apologies for any confusion on the note that went home last week regarding Teacher Appreciation Week. There were two sets of dates listed - the correct week for Teacher Appreciation is May 8th-12th. During this week, volunteers take over the morning teacher duties so the teachers can have a break. We need five volunteers every week day morning from 7:50 - 8:20 am for playground duty. Dads, moms, and grandparents are all welcome to help. Please contact Kristen Hollenbeck at +1 978 681 1894 or vinter145@aol.com if you can volunteer for half hour any morning that week. Thank you!
Mother-Son Jammin Fun Photos! If you had your photo taken at the mother/son dance and have not yet placed your order, please do so right away! The photos will be online until only Sunday May 7th. After this date the photos will no longer be available for purchase. Contact Sandy at Kingston Studios, +1 978 683 9549 with questions.

From the Health Office: TicksAt this time of the year, it is important to check your child for ticks. Should you find a tick on your child's skin, it should be removed by grasping it close to the surface of skin with tweezers and pulling it straight out without twisting. If you are unable to remove the tick completely or the site becomes increasingly reddened, inflamed or any drainage occurs, you should contact your child's physician.
Many of the ticks found in this area are the common wood tick, which is the type typically found on dogs. Lyme disease is transmitted not by wood ticks, but by deer ticks, which are much smaller in size. Deer ticks start at the size of a pinhead, and never grow as much as 1/8 of an inch even when fully engorged. Wood ticks, on the other hand, are much more visible. If you are not sure what type of tick you are dealing with, save it and bring it to your child's doctor to evaluate. Should you determine that there is a possibility of a tick you find being a deer tick based on it's size, watch for a rash spreading out from the site of the bite and/or any flu-like symptoms in the next few weeks. And notify your doctor should either of these occur.
Be sure to check your child carefully each day for the presence of ticks, including the scalp, behind, and in the ears, and other areas that may be hard to visualize. If possible, wear long pants and sleeves when walking in wooded areas, and check your outdoor pets as well. Please feel free to call the health office at +1 978 794 3849 if you have any questions. Mary Hadjian, R.N.
