Kittredge Elementary School

Dear Families,

It's hard to believe that we have been in school 3 weeks. Everyone seems to have settled in and daily routines have been established throughout the building. Friday we had our first Spirit Day, Summer Memories Day, along with our first Community Meeting. Ms. Slosky, our music teacher has taught the students the "Kittredge School Song" and the children sang it with enthusiasm at the beginning of the meeting. We hope Community meetings will become a part of our school culture, providing an opportunity for all the students to come together once a month to celebrate our school spirit.

As new principal at Kittredge, I am in the process of completing an entry plan. The goals I have set for myself are:

• To become familiar with the people and routines
• To understand the school culture and build upon its strength
• To identify priorities and needs of the Kittredge Community

I have been meeting with staff and community members to answer the following questions:

• What is working at Kittredge School?
• What needs attention at Kittredge School?
• What do you value as a: teacher, parent, staff member, community member, student?

Finally, I'd like to extend a special thank you to Brownie troop 573 for the lovely autumn arrangements outside the main entrance to the building. We appreciate your contribution toward making our school a welcoming building.

4th and 5th grade parents: I am in need of some volunteers for the holiday gift-giving program. Anybody who wishes to help out with this wonderful community program should call at Beth Carlson +1 978 557 5633.

Primo Pasta Night is approaching fast. We have lots to do to prepare. If you would like to help, please call Heidi Chaff +1 978 794 2595 and/or attend a planning meeting Thursday September 30th at 7:30pm at Heidi's house.

Pack 89 Cub Scout registration will be on Thursday, September 30th, 7 pm at the Franklin School. Cub Scouts is for boys who are in grades 1-5. Returning scouts do not need to attend registration; you can re-register with your den leader.

Parents, The North Andover School District is making an effort to recycle more paper and containers. There is a blue recycling bin in the lunch room for plastic bottles and aluminum cans. Remind your child to recycle his disposable EMPTY drink container from lunch.

We are still involved in the "Cartridges for Kids" program and any cartridges and cell phones that you collected over the summer can be brought to school for the collection box in the entry. Remember to put all cartridges in ziploc bags to prevent leakage. The first check from last year's accumulation of phones and cartridges is on its way. There is still time to sign up for language classes held at Kittredge for Level 1 and Level 2 Spanish. Please contact Kristen Hollenbeck at +1 978 681 1894 or vinter145@aol.com for more info. Classes begin at the end of September.

North Andover is now accepting ALL and I mean ALL plastic for curbside pick up; numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or infinity!

Now that the school year is upon us the Youth Center is again looking for volunteers for the front desk. This includes answering the phones, directing visitors, and general customer service. This is only a two hour commitment and your choice of once or twice a month. Volunteering at the Youth Center is fun and it's a great opportunity to see where your kids spend their time. Hope everyone had a great summer and saved all your BoxTops! Please start bringing them in and depositing them in the BoxTop box in the Front Lobby. Also, by just going online at www.boxtops4education.com and becoming a member of the BoxTops Booster Club, our school will earn 5 Bonus Boxtops. That's $.50 for every new member! Let's all start saving and beat last year's record!

The North Andover Public Schools Department is very pleased to announce that a new district-wide periodic newsletter, the "Knights' News" will be published and distributed through the Eagle-Tribune's Town Crossing Newspaper. Look for the introductory issue to arrive in your local newspaper or mailbox within the next week. Coldwell-Banker Realtors have graciously undertaken the financial sponsorship of this publication. We expect this newsletter to become a primary communication resource for the entire North Andover community!
